Quilt Affair

Quilting is booming! Even in a modern day of high-tech and fast-paced life, the centuries-old art of creating quilts has been seeing a resurgence throughout the U.S. In Independence, the museum hosts an bi-annual Quilt Fair. In 2019 “The Quilt Affair” will be from May 10-June 6 with public viewing hours during normal museum hours. Regular admission will be charged for viewing the quilts.

This event is held every two years. The quilts are judged in eight different categories; pieced, hand quilted; appliqued, hand quilted; embroidered, hand quilted; pieced, machine quilted; small quilts/wall hangings; antique; appliqued and embroidered machine quilted. The entry fee is $5 per piece with a limit of 3 per category. To enter a quilt, contact the museum for an entry form.

Deb Devine will present a lecture on the history of Kansas quilts on May 18 at 2:00 PM. This is free to the public.
