The Annual Arts & Crafts Fair has changed to an Expanded Holiday Gift Shop featuring original works of art, original crafts, locally authored books, fine ceramics art, wood-crafts, jewelry, and unique gifts for the holiday season. The gift shop is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, through December 19th.
Independence Veterans are honored in this exhibit that shows their involvement in conflicts within the last 150 years. Local veteran's’ stories are feature as they served in conflicts from the Civil War to the present.
This exhibit will showcase a new exhibit on the history of NEEWOLLAH.
This Exhibit showcases over 150 artworks from 14 IHMAC Artists and their instructors. Area artists are showing their work and work done in classes taught by Rick Bushnell, Steve Greenwall, Jim Hayward, Duane Taylor, Monte Toon, Louise Woodard, and Rachel Unruh. Many works are for sale.
The IHMAC gallery features the Independence Sesquicentennial exhibit. Photos and stories of the Osage, Haytown, featured sites, cultures and persons of Independence are on display. Once you’ve enjoyed the stories of Independence purchase a display ticket and visit the 20+ themed rooms of early 20th century living. Adults are $5.00, young persons ages 14 - 18 are $3.00, and children and veterans are FREE. The IHMAC is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.

Kids, bring Dad, Grandpa or both for an early Father’s Day party at IHMAC. Explore the 32 exhibits with morning tours, snacks, and fun activities. Kids and adults will enjoy a scavenger hunt that will lead them through exhibits found on three floors of the Museum and Art Center. Discover life in Independence during the turn of the 20th century. Dad gets in FREE when accompanied by a kid. Reservations are encouraged by calling 620-331-3515 or 620-330-3443. All participants are asked to sanitize the their hands upon entering the building. Masks are encouraged and available at no cost. Social distancing is encouraged.
Kids! Get out and have some fun at the Independence Historical Museum and Art Center. Bring mom or dad, or both to the Museum and Art center for a Bird House Painting Party. For only $5.00 you get a bird house and all the material you need to paint. Refreshments will be provided. Make a reservation today. Only 50 bird houses are available. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

The Annual Spring Tea is scheduled for March 8th at 2:00 PM.
Reservations must be made by February 29th. Please contact the Museum office at 620-331-3515 for more information. Payment must be received with reservations.
A Style Show and other special entertainment are planned for the afternoon.
Monte Toon is a watercolorist with many years of experience.
This Meadowlark Lounge Event will feature all female singers/songwriters performing their original songs. Reservations must be made by January 14. Make reservations by calling the Independence Historical Museum & Art Center at 620-331-3515 or stopping by 123 N. 8th in Independence, KS. Refreshments will be served.
