The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) presents “Journey Stories,” a set of seven posters designed to encourage dialogue, engagement and participation in classrooms and communities on how movement has defined America.
This year’s Neewollah exhibit will focus on Neewollah during the 1970’s.
This exhibit, funded by a grant from Humanities Kansas, will explore what our community was like in the 1970’s.

Joan Allen’s major interest is watercolors, using color and line. She expresses art using a wet-on-wet technique. Using flowers as a subject she applies a wet-on-wet technique with splashes of color. She also paints animals and landscapes. Techniques are always emphasized. Most of Joan’s work involves mixed media—watercolor paints and ink. Fee: $30 per person, $25 for IHMAC members.

On Monday, May 1 at 7pm, Invoke will be presented by Independence Community College at Independence Historical Museum and Arts Center (123 N 8th St.). The group will perform several selections of their original music, in addition to performing Enigma for the Night by Jocelyn C. Chambers and The Lessons of History by Jonathan Bingham.
Invoke is an Austin-based, multi-instrumental quartet comprised of Nick Montopoli, violin/banjo/vocals; Zach Matteson, violin/vocals; Karl Mitze, viola/mandolin/vocals; Geoff Manyin, cello/vocals. They are an Austin-based group– which the Capital Gazette describes as “versatile and musically adventurous”
The second gradient wash workshop uses the same techniques as the first workshop to explore the different types of washes, creating a new landscape painting. Workshops are open to adults and high school age students. The cost is $35 per person per workshop ($30 for IHMAC Members).
