This one-day exhibit is the private collection of Mark Metcalf of Independence.
The fossils will be on display fro 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM only.
Martin and the Dead Guys with special guest Robbi Bell will perform at the Meadowlark Lounge located in the Independence Historical Museum & Art Center at 123 N. 8th in Independence, KS.

The exhibit is open to the public from June 29 through July 12. Hours are 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday - Saturday.
Museums from the Southeast Kansas area will meet to discuss a Coalition of Museums.
A “Meet & Greet” will be from 9 to 9:30 AM.

Quilting is booming! Even in a modern day of high-tech and fast-paced life, the centuries-old art of creating quilts has been seeing a resurgence throughout the U.S. In Independence, the museum hosts an bi-annual Quilt Fair. In 2019 “The Quilt Affair” will be from May 10-June 6 with public viewing hours during normal museum hours. Regular admission will be charged for viewing the quilts.
This event is held every two years. The quilts are judged in eight different categories; pieced, hand quilted; appliqued, hand quilted; embroidered, hand quilted; pieced, machine quilted; small quilts/wall hangings; antique; appliqued and embroidered machine quilted. The entry fee is $5 per piece with a limit of 3 per category. To enter a quilt, contact the museum for an entry form.
Deb Devine will present a lecture on the history of Kansas quilts on May 18 at 2:00 PM. This is free to the public.
Come paint with the Kids! All supplies are furnished to paint a birdhouse. Admission is $10 per person for all ages.
Please RSVP by May 3.
A beautiful spring tea is held annually in the museum’s Gallery and features a light buffet lunch enjoyed on the vintage china of local homes’ collections. The 2019 event will be at 1 p.m. April 28. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased at the museum by April 15. We also invite table hosts and sponsors; it’s a wonderful opportunity to make use of those treasured family dishes and stemware. Contact the museum for details.
The IHMAC is open to middle school & high school from the surrounding area.
Entries will be received on April 12 from 4 - 6 PM and on April 13 from 10 AM to 3 PM.
The Critiques & Reception is Monday, April 15 at 7:00 PM.
The Categories are 2-Dimensional: Miscellaneous. Drawing (pencil, pastel & charcoal), Painting; 3-Dimensional: Miscellaneous (Jewelry, etc), Ceramics & Sculpture
Entry fees are $5 for the first entry with $1 for each additional artwork. Artists can enter up to 3 pieces per category.

The Photography Show is open to all ages. Fees for entries are $3 each for students and $5 each for adults.
Ribbons are awarded in seven categories. Prizes are given for the Best of Show and People's Choice.
